Hotbiz VDB-3100
Descended from the groundbreaking VDB-1000, the VDB-3000 is from 1997 and has twenty on-screen touch contacts; sixteen for the calculator buttons, which also perform other functions depending on the mode, and four function buttons above, which correspond to the standard Casio side pushers. The telememo page includes an email field for each entry, and there’s a second page of the databank for URLs. Higher-pitched beep upon returning to time, but it won’t jump straight back to the time after a mode has been used. It seems quite fiddly to use at first, but after gaining a little familiarity it’s much easier. The EL backlight works well, staying on for a minimum of 1.5s and staying on for as long as the button is held, plus 1.5s. This is the flash version of this model, with gold highlights and a solid-link bracelet; this one has been shortened to 17cm. The paint shows wear which doesn’t actually look that bad except for a scratch on the bottom.
