Dunlop Tennis D221

This is an extremely rare and rather strange timepiece, from a brand not particularly known for their watches. The manual, or even any mention of this thing, is nowhere to be found on the net, suggesting it possibly hails from last century. It has a noisy EL backlight, four alarms which can be assigned a date, a ‘TENNIS SCORER’ function, ‘GAME RECALL’, ‘TENNIS COACH’ (?), ‘COACH RECALL’, ‘CHRONO’ (a fairly sophisticated stopwatch with a two-line display and multiple lap memory), ‘CHRONO RECALL’, ‘TIMER’ – a pretty flash implementation with five separate timers with three modes for each (‘CC’ which starts a stopwatch which beeps again after 10s, ‘CR’ which is a straightforward auto-repeat, and normal; ‘CS’), which can be set between a minute under 100h and one minute, and finally, ‘DUAL TIME’ which can even be set to a different year, in case you play tennis with Doc Brown. The goofy plastic case seems a bit cheap and bulky, but has sprung pushers which is nice. The window in the crystal is poorly placed, pretty much obscuring the bottom row of dots at a typical viewing angle, and the cheap velcro strap has these fake leather bits which have started to perish and is incredibly long, such that it runs under the watch and makes it sit even higher. Despite a minor bit of damage to the silver paint on the bezel, this watch appears to be unused, judging by the state of strap, and the fact that almost anyone would have trimmed it shorter. A very odd one, with a large and unusual array of functions, which is actually quite useful if you can get over the laughably dubious packaging. If you’re into tennis and have the wherewithal and inclination to bust out a custom case for this thing, well boy, is this the super rare and exclusive watch for you. Might want to change the colour of that reflector while you’re at it…
