Casiotron A201 #1 ‘Blue Thunder’

A favourite of collectors, who named it after the movie it famously appeared in (it also showed up in 48 Hours), this module boasts a fancy duplex LCD; one for the digits and one for the hands. It shows off the hands in a demo mode, and when the alarm or timer goes off. Sadly, those duplex LCDs turned out to be poorly sealed, and nearly all of them have suffered bleed to a lesser or greater extent by now, further inflating the value of decent examples. A particularly unusual quirk of the 103 module is its half-hourly chime. This module was employed in at least seven different models, and this A201 is possibly the most popular, the plated case has a press-on caseback, and this example has an aftermarket bracelet. Released in 1980, it’s in the 70s category due to its style.

The case is part of the circuit for the pushers, which don’t work super reliably as a result; it seems to be the interface between the case and pushers, given that making the light illuminate steadily seems to be dependent on the angle of pressure. Looking into a fix for this. This example has an aftermarket bracelet and is pushing it with the screen bleed, so it represents entry level for this sought-after model.
