The very similar predecessor of this watch, the DB-600, was a Databank with calculator and schedule functionality released in 1985, establishing the design language inherited by the DB-500’s successor, the DB-520. This later elaboration on the DB-600 was released in 1988 and added world time, a countdown timer, and an improved display with a larger gapless dot matrix among other refinements, and was possibly one of the first models to eschew the incandescent microlight for a green LED, which somewhat detracts from its retro feel these days. The LED is momentary, only staying lit while the button is held, and it lacks the higher-pitched beep upon returning to the time, but returns straight to the time after a mode has been used. The 24h timer has a resolution of one minute. This example is in excellent condition, and has been restored with a reproduction keypad. Far superior to the current ‘vintage line’ DBC-611 model.
