Mission appears to be an extremely obscure JDM Casio sub-brand, possibly comprising a handful of metal versions of ana-digi Casios around the late 80s / early 90s. This striking piece from 1991, which has been described as the product of a one night stand with Breitling, is the only Mission model I’ve come across. Functionally, it belongs to the Speed Memory family (sharing the caseback template and module shape with this earlier model), and is quite possibly the only watch ever made with both a rotating bezel tachymeter and a digital tachymeter. An unexpected and fascinating detail for a Casio is the fancy guilloche-style dial, which really adds an extra dimension when the light catches it, and the pretty layout and design of the digital sub-dials make this watch a real bit of eye candy. Sadly, the case is only chromed base metal (likely brass), but the plating is in excellent condition with no signs of corrosion, and it sports a flash solid-link bracelet with a Misson-signed folding and locking clasp… unfortunately quite short, so a bracelet extender has been added to bring it up to a more typical size. This module lacks a light (although the hands and indices are lumed), and employing all its functions via a mere three buttons is a tad clunky, but these minor shortcomings do little to detract from this unique and fascinating timepiece.
