A favourite of collectors, who named it after the movie it famously appeared in (it also showed up in 48 Hours), this module boasts a fancy duplex LCD; one for the digits and one for the hands. It shows off the hands in a demo mode, and when the alarm or timer goes off. Sadly, those duplex LCDs turned out to be poorly sealed, and nearly all of them have suffered bleed to a lesser or greater extent by now, further inflating the value of decent examples. A particularly unusual quirk of the 103 module is its half-hourly chime. This module was employed in at least seven different models, and this AA-91W is definitely one of the nicest, with a stainless steel screwback case. Released in 1980, it’s in the 70s category due to its style.

This example is in fabulous condition, given that such minor LCD bleed is ahead of the curve on surviving 103 modules, although there is only 17.5cm left on the folding clasp strap. It’s been modified with a warm white LED, which looks right except that it provides adequate illumination, not to mention being far more efficient – although as the cell loses voltage, an unboosted white LED will stop working maybe 3/4 through a lithium cell’s life.

The case is part of the circuit for the pushers, which at this age don’t work 100% reliably as a result; it seems to be the interface between the case and pushers, given that making the light illuminate steadily seems to be dependent on the angle of pressure. Looking into a fix for this.
