The module in this one is popular, appearing in A-series, F-series, and the W-250 ‘Marlin’ models of the era. This rare S-series model has a very unusual construction, employing a resin case with a stainless steel shell, combining the durability and style of SS with the lighter weight of resin. The aesthetic of this one, from 1979, put it squarely in a tight late 70s / early 80s bracket. The folding clasp bracelet has been shortened a lot, down to a max 0f 15.5cm. Module functions are a little quirky, dating from an era before all this stuff had become more or less standardised – lower right button swaps between day and seconds on the time display, which also shows the date. There’s a 1/10s stopwatch which really adds to the old-school vibe, an alarm, and the third mode merely sets the hourly signal. Like many of these early modules, this one doesn’t make a sound until the alarm or signal goes, and testing the alarm is done by holding the bottom two buttons which isn’t obvious.
