This is an early model from Casio’s Pro Trek outdoor adventuring sub-brand, which goes back to 1995. Featuring ruggedised construction and bristling with tech, the Pro Trek line was created to be the ultimate in tool watches. This particular model included the now-discontinued Twincept feature, where the dial of an analog watch forms the reflector for an LCD. It’s an interesting choice for a watch like this; with the LCD switched off, a universal Twincept function, it looks quite incongruous. It’s also a bit harder to read than a normal LCD, with the details of an analog face behind it, but it’s not too bad. And when the electroluminescent backlight is activated, lighting up the whole dial, it’s pretty spectacular. This bad boy is geared towards mountain climbing, with its rotating compass bezel, thermometer and altimeter/barometer sensors with datalogging via the dot matrix. The strap has an internal elastic liner with velcro closure, plus a further external strap with a snap closure, with both straps passing under the caseback, NATO style. Also supplied is a more normal strap from a different Pro Trek model offering a flatter fit, max wrist for that one 19.5cm.
