This JDM-only watch is featured on Casio’s corporate history pages, and is quite a beast, with its kanji dictionary, covering about 55,000 words looked up by phonetic reading. In addition to the full dot matrix screen, it features a data port on the side, but the connector cradle and details of how it connected to whatever it connected to, seem to be lost in the mists of time – perhaps a good target for some retro computing enthusiast sleuthing. Although it’s possible to switch the weekday display from Japanese to English, it appears to be restricted to Japanese text entry in the databank. This leaves plenty of useful features however, including a calendar, which can be momentarily viewed via front button press from the time screen. This fairly chunky unit is deceptively light thanks to its plated resin case, which is elevated somewhat by an anodised aluminium bezel. Two variants exist, one with gold highlights. There exists a rare Japanese manual, presumably never digitised but once spotted included with one of these for sale.
