Very hard to find any info on this watch, such as when it was released, but the serial number would seem to indicate it’s from 2014, although the calendar goes back to 2007. It’s quite a chunky thing, nicely made in stainless steel and glass, with nice large sprung pushers, and its module boasts quite comprehensive functionality; these watches are pretty great value if you don’t mind the size. The dot matrix screen has two time display modes, one showing the time much larger, and the UI has animated transitions which can be switched off, as can the button press confirmation beep. There are two LEDs to choose from, orange and blue, but the orange one is literally on the blink – it just gives a brief flash for some reason. There’s a schedule function with room for thirty entries with a fourteen character label. The hundred hour stopwatch can store a hundred lap times, and the timer can be set from ten seconds to a hundred hours in one-second increments. Has world time and DST function, and five alarms, but no hourly chime. This module can be found in various Seiko models and brands; the Pulsar brand was originally owned by Hamilton, who created it for the first electronic digital watch in 1972, and was acquired by Seiko in 1978 before being wound up in 2023. Every example of this module I’ve seen has a negative display, which tempts me to mod this one to positive, which would improve its legibility, particularly for the mode indication icons below the matrix… it’s already received a slight modification to the power cell clip so it can take a CR2032 instead of a CR2025. Aside from the dud LED, it’s in pretty great condition, possibly unused.
